Candidates research, recommend, and implement strategies for initiating and sustaining technology innovations and for managing the change process in schools.
Artifact: Action Plan
Reflection:
This action plan was developed in EDL 7305 based on a needs assessment of River Trail Middle School's sixth grade county and state assessment scores. The plan is written to help decrease the achievement gap between White and African American students in Social Studies and Science assessments over a 4 month time period. With this action plan, it shows that I understand how to identify a need based on data and can create a recommended plan for improving upon the need. The clear timeline sectioned out by each task that results in the improvement of scores demonstrates the ability to create strategies to stimulate a change within a grade level and school.
Through the completion of this artifact, I learned how to take data and identify an area of need. From that need, I learned how to create a proper systematic plan for creating a solution to the need and how to accurately time out the action plan for implementation. With the creation of the artifact, I wish I had extended the action plan past November to tackle the achievement gap fully. Creating an action plan through the completion of the county and state assessments would have been more beneficial since those assessments were how the need was formed. The impact from the action plan helps the school show improvement through data based results and it also helps the faculty to learn the process needed to use and improve on data. Furthermore, the action plan's main goal is to improve student learning, so the students are the ones who receive the biggest impact from the creation of the action plan. This impact can be assessed by comparing the initial assessment results with the data from the posttests (county and state assessments).
