Reflection:
The technology and professional learning plan was created in ITEC 7460 by conducting school interviews on technology in the school, analyzing the professional development that takes place in the school, and creating and implementing a professional learning plan. Professional learning element 5.2 clearly is supported by the technology and professional learning plan, because the implemented professional learning sessions modeled best practices while simultaneously promoting best practices to the teachers who participated. Demonstrating how to use engaging technology (Quia) with students was the key to this professional learning session, which resulted in teachers taking the technology back to their classrooms to use with their students.
By completing this artifact, I learned how to create a professional learning session that effectively engages teachers while showing them how to use a new technology and having them walk away with ideas for their own classrooms. This learning experience is important because a technology facilitator needs to be able to design, implement, and improve upon professional learning sessions, and I feel like I can now do this. The thing I would change about this artifact would be the speed the professional learning session was implemented. With the variety of teacher abilities in the session, everyone worked at their own speed, which resulted in a lot of down time for some of the teachers. Planning the speed of the session better with the ability for some teachers to work ahead would have been more effective in keeping everyone engaged. Faculty development and student learning were directly impacted through this artifact, because the professional learning session taught teachers a new and engaging technology that they took back to their classrooms and used with their students to increase student engagement. This impact can be assessed through teacher feedback and observations of teacher's classrooms to find out if they did implement the new technology. Discussing the new technology with the students can also find out if the impact was positive or negative.
