Artifact: Online Course Syllabus
Reflection:
In the summer of 2012, an online learning syllabus was created to support a unit that does not receive enough time in the classroom, so it was converted to an online course where all student needs are met. This artifact demonstrates mastery of the diversity, cultural understanding, and global awareness element because the syllabus addresses the needs of all students, even those students who need accommodations or modifications.
Through the completion of the syllabus, I learned how to make sure all students' privacy and rights are protected by creating acceptable use policies and ADA statement. The thing I would change about this syllabus would add more detail about the activities in the course, so students and parents can identify if they would have trouble due to any learning, visual, or auditory problems. Providing more detail will ensure that all accommodations would be brought to my attention sooner rather than later. This artifact impacts student learning, because the syllabus describes an environment where all students are supported in learning about electricity and magnetism. This impact can be assessed by having conversations with the students about how their needs were met and if the learning environment helped them develop deeper meanings with the standards.
