Artifact: Blogging Lesson Plan
Reflection:
In ITEC 7430, the blogging lesson plan was created and implemented to demonstrate how to appropriately use a 21st century technology. This particular lesson plan facilitates the use of blogging with current events in a science classroom while also emphasizing the importance of finding reliable science sources. This particular artifact shows how to differentiate instruction while using technology. Focusing on student learning and the outcomes the students create is clearly demonstrated with this lesson plan because students are taking a general task and creating a unique, individualized space by creating a blog while also researching and defending a science current event article.
Through the creation of this artifact, I learned how to write a lesson using technology to engage students while also taking in different learning styles and abilities into account. This artifact also helped to teach me how to manage online blogging environments, which can be a daunting task when dealing with middle school students. Be able to visualize an end product and then guide the students and learn with them as they experience and experiment with something new. To change this artifact, I would have created a video to walk the students through the process of creating a blog. With a video, the students could create their accounts at home and then more time could spent with the content and not too focused on the technology. The point of technology incorporated into a lesson is to enhance the content, not take the focus away from the content. Student learning was impacted from the creation of this artifact by teaching students how to research for reliable sources while also locating science related articles that they must defend using blogs. The impact can be assessed by looking at the student blogs to see if they found reliable sources for their articles while also looking for the science dialogue the blogs would create.
