3.7 Communication & Collaboration
Candidates utilize digital communication and collaboration tools to communicate locally and globally with students, parents, peers, and the larger community.
Reflection:
While obtaining my Reading Endorsement, my group members and I were assigned reading comprehension for our parent presentation. We decided to create the artifact above, a website about reading comprehension strategies for both parents and students to use and apply to their reading. This website demonstrates the communication and collaboration element by creating an online environment where parents and students can learn how to improve their skills in a variety of methods with examples given for each. Both parents and students will have to work together to successfully implement the strategies explained on the website to improve the students' reading comprehension.
By working with a group of teachers to create a cohesive website, I learned how to teach technology novice teachers how to use weebly.com while also communicating the wants and needs of each teacher to include on the website. I also learned how to effectively communicate to an unknown audience by making the website easy to navigate with a simple design. If I were able to make changes to this website, I would include more interactive examples for each strategy. We incorporated many visuals, since the website is devoted to students who struggle with reading, but adding more videos would benefit both the students and the parents. This website impacts student learning and faculty development. The website was created for students and parents to use to improve student reading comprehension, but teachers could also use the website to incorporate the strategies into their lessons. This impact is hard to assess since the website is not monitored, but adding a survey component to the website to ask for feedback would help to evaluate the impact the website has on students, parents, and teachers.
