Artifact: ITEC 7445 Field Experience Log
Reflection:
For every course I complete while I work on my master's, I am expected to complete field experiences outside of my regular course work. With this field experience log, I spent my time helping other teachers learn new technology that enhanced their classrooms. This artifact shows mastery of the field experience element, because I effectively took the knowledge I learned about not scaring newbies to technology by talking and clicking too fast. I made sure that I let the teachers do all the work as I slowly talked them through the process and waited patiently as they took notes and learned to troubleshoot without my assistance.
Through these field experiences, I learned to keep any stress or annoyance I was feeling hidden. I know that when working with students, it is always best to keep a smile on your face and put things behind you. The same goes for working with adults, especially those that do not listen and click wherever they want while wondering why the technology does not work. If I could change anything about these field experiences, I would change my approach with sharing a new website, stixy.com. Instead of showing what the website could do, I would show them the website in action with student support for why they should use it in their classrooms. Faculty development and student learning were impacted by helping the teachers improve their technology skills, which in turn helps to increase student learning. This can be assessed by observing changes in the teachers' use of technology and by having conversations with their students to see if the changes have been positive ones.
