2.5 Differentiation
Candidates model and facilitate the design and implementation of technology-enhanced learning experiences making appropriate use of differentiation, including adjusting content, process, product, and learning environment based upon an analysis of learner characteristics, including readiness levels, interests, and personal goals.
Artifact: Webquest and Webquest Reflection Paper
Reflection:
This webquest was created to establish an online learning experience for students on a particular unit, which allows the students to work at their own pace while learning and experiencing a unit on electricity. With this artifact, it clearly demonstrates differentiation because students are able to work at a pace that is individually suited for each student while there are also helpful hints for teachers on how to use this webquest with different levels of students. If a student needs extra help or a modified experience, there are suggestions that allow each student to succeed successfully at their own level and ability.
Through the completion of this artifact, I learned how to create an assignment for students and then take that assignment and lower it down a level to help those students who need more guidance. Having the ability to create one assignment at two different levels is important for teachers to know how to do to successfully differentiate within the classroom. It I was going to change this artifact, I would add a section for those students who finish early or need more challenge in their assignments. Differentiation should occur for all levels, including the advanced level. Everyone will have a student who finishes an assignment early, so there should always be a more rigorous add on to all assignments to successfully differentiate to all students. This differentiated webquest impacts student learning by creating an environment where every student can learn at their ability level without sacrificing any student because their ability level might be lower or higher than the class. To assess this impact, student products can be analyzed to see how all the different levels of students created products that reflect their ability level, while everyone learns the same standards.
